*Job Summary* This position ensures that the drill rigs, machinery, equipment, and other resources are effectively operated while overseeing the handling, storage, transport, and use of explosives at project sites, performing the tasks to meet safety standards, regulatory compliance, deadlines and to maximize productivity and profitability.
This is a supervisory position, and the successful candidate will be expected to set an example for team members of commitment, safe practices & ensure that personnel/tasks adhere to all legal & safety requirements.
This candidate will also oversee the assessment and allocation of required personnel, supplies & equipment and ensure that the highest level of quality is maintained while minimizing downtime and waste.
The supervisor is responsible to conduct projects in accordance with contract requirements and timeframes and be aware of relevant costing/supply/budgets.
They must adhere to all organization policies and procedures and be responsible for maintaining accurate data/records/documentation.
You need to have and maintain (with regular training and updates as necessary) the knowledge, technical skills and qualifications that are necessary to perform this role to comply with the requirements of the Organization and any applicable rules, regulations and with any law which applies.
*Main Responsibilities* * Following instructions or diagrams, lay out drill pattern and determine depth and diameter of blast holes.
* Drive and operate tracked or truck-mounted rotary drilling, air-track, or other drilling equipment to drill blast holes at specified depths, staked positions, and in agreed locations.
* Measure location and stake out pattern of holes to be drilled.
* Ensure that all equipment, rigs, and associated products (couplings/rods etc.
) are used to their maximum potential, while ensuring their sustainability.
* Conduct field tests to determine type and quantity of explosives required.
* Assemble primer charges using appropriately selected detonators, fuses, detonating cords, and other materials.
* Load explosives in blast holes as required using equipment or by hand.
* Connect electrical wires, detonating cords, or fuses into series and connect series to blasting equipment; control and activate detonator mechanisms.
* Handle, store, and transport explosives and accessories in accordance with industry procedures, criteria, and regulations, ensuring maximum safety.
* Follow drill depth plans, organize daily consumables, ensure quality of holes by dipping and re-drilling before leaving drill area.
*Skills* * MSHA Certification * OSHA 10 hr.
Certification * CPR/First Aid Certification desired * Drivers License required, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with valid medical card preferred * 5 years of drill and blast experience, with 2 years of supervisory experience * Experience with Sandvick, Atlas Copco, and John Henery drills * Requisite knowledge of the machinery, tools, equipment, and materials common to the role * Demonstrate knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations for this role * Must be able to pass ATF Employee Possessor background check.
*Physical Requirements* * Must be able to pass drug screen and a PAT (physical abilities test).
* Exert force of 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly.
