JOB The Kenai Trial Court seeks applicants for a Courtroom Judicial Assistant to perform in-courting duties.
This position may be required to work an occasional weekend or holiday to provide clerical assistance for judicial officers.

IN-COURTING DUTIESPrepare the courtroom for daily proceedings; ensure needed supplies are available for the clerk, judge, and parties; perform microphone test;Ensure computer programs are operating properly; prepare jury room if necessary;Open court and announce the judicial officer; initiate phone calls for telephonic testimony and proceedings;Record court proceedings and prepare accurate summary of same; log proceedings to reflect outcome of hearings such as bail conditions set, future court dates, and other orders;Mark and maintain exhibits and exhibit lists; ensure that exhibits have been properly entered into the record; properly transfer exhibits to jury room as authorized by judicial officer;Prepare, distribute, and process documents resulting from proceedings.
OTHER DUTIESProvide assistance to other staff as necessary; cross-train in case processing procedures;Assist with training and/or provide backup support while other court staff are participating in training, out of the office, or if other positions are vacant;Travel to outlying courts for any matters set before a judge from Kenai or to cover a judge from outlying areas as needed.
Assist with special projects as assigned.
The ideal applicant will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Experience dealing with the public in stressful situations.
Ability to establish priorities while handling confidential or sensitive information.
Experience and knowledge of proofreading and editing professional documents.
Experience performing data entry with a high level of accuracy.
Ability to process detailed documents or a detailed workload with consistency and accuracy.
Note: This position requires a valid Alaska Driver's License and a clear driving record.
The Work HoursFull-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.
5 hours per week.
The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.
m.
to 4:30 p.
m.
with a one-hour lunch break.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
Substitution: Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
