_*Facility Operations Engineer*_ *Aurora Launch Services (ALS): *Aurora Launch Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alaska Aerospace, established to provide low cost, highly reliable launch services on a contract basis to both government and commercial space launch customers worldwide.
The company is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, co-located with Alaska Aerospace.
*Position Description: *Under the direction of the Spaceport Manager, the Facility Operations Engineer will develop, direct, coordinate, expedite and supervise facility engineering and maintenance activities of the Pacific Spaceport Complex-Alaska and its auxiliary facilities.
The PSCA Facility Engineer functions as a high level engineering manager with responsibility for all PSCA facilities and systems that are critical to ensuring operational capability for launch campaigns; exercises independent judgment that requires considerable knowledge of building system design and maintenance; assists in the development of contracts for facility modifications, repair or construction; and is responsible for ensuring acceptable work is performed by staff and contractors according to engineering specifications, relevant codes, laws, standards and procedures.
This is a full-time position located in Kodiak, Alaska.
Alaska hires preferred, although out of state applicants will be considered.
*Primary Job Responsibilities:* 1.
Responsible for project management of facility (buildings/grounds/roads) construction and maintenance contractors; PSCA facility expansion and modification; PSCA site maintenance and renovation; and construction and maintenance cost management.
2.
Serve as lead for assessing building renovation and repair needs, setting priorities for planned work, and recommending contracts for construction, repair, or maintenance of the PSCA facilities.
Position monitors the work of subcontractors.
3.
Prepares specifications and design documents for inclusion in construction contracts; prepares technical and special reports as required.
4.
Plans, coordinates, prioritizes, and supervises activities involving the improvement and maintenance of the PSCA facilities; examines and inspects all activities to determine maintenance and operations efficiency.
5.
Inspects buildings for compliance with contract documents and applicable building codes; recommends change orders and payment upon completion.
6.
Research new materials and methods; investigates impact of hazardous substances to the existing PSCA infrastructure and auxiliary facilities.
7.
Analyzes project feasibility, prepares cost estimates, writes specifications, and reviews and recommends all related expenditures to ensure funds are obligated; assumes administrative and fiscal responsibilities as delegated.
8.
Reviews, and updates as necessary, PSCA owner and customer documentation, manuals, policies, and procedures.
9.
Assists in the assessment and evaluation of existing and proposed PSCA and auxiliary facilities, including cost and repair options.
10.
Performs other engineering related work as assigned.
*Required Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:* * Relevant engineering degree from an accredited institution.
* Seven to ten years of professional experience in facility engineering, planning, building design, construction, maintenance, and project or cost management.
* Considerable knowledge of project engineering and management, such as documentation, survey, and inspection requirements; practices, procedures, equipment and materials used in the construction, maintenance and repair of buildings; and contractor and employee relations.
* Considerable knowledge of state and federal regulations; knowledge of relevant city, state and federal codes and safety regulations.
* Advanced knowledge of engineering project disciplines to manage, coordinate and administer large and/or complex projects with high public visibility and impact, as well as negotiation and coordination skills and related characteristics.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a U.
S.
Department of Defense (DoD) secret security clearance.
* Background check and drug screen required.
* Willing and able to work extended hours, overtime, and on weekends, as required.
*Preferred Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:* * Aerospace facility engineering experience preferred.
*ITAR Requirements* To conform to U.
S.
Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.
S.
citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.
S.
, protected individual as defined by 8 U.
S.
C.
1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.
S.
Department of State.
